Q21.

Risk Factors for Women

If you are a woman, and you answer yes to any of the questions below, you may want to talk with your doctor.

- Is there a history of thyroid or immune disease in your family?
- Are you 40 years of age or older?
- Have you had thyroid disease before?
- Have you given birth within the past 6 months?
- Have you ever had X-ray therapy of your head or neck for cancer or Hodgkin's disease?
- Do you take lithium?
- Do you have other autoimmune conditions, such as Addison's disease, type I diabetes (insulin-dependent), pernicious anemia, rheumatoid arthritis, or lupus?
