Why Hashimoto Disease Occurs?
Your body's immune system fights infections. It
does this by identifying cells that are not part of your body, like
viruses and bacteria. When cells like these enter your body, your immune
system sends out protector cells and substances called antibodies. These
attack and damage these foreign cells.
With Hashimoto's disease, your immune system thinks your thyroid gland
is a group of foreign cells, and attacks it with protector cells. This
is called an autoimmune condition. This simply means that your immune
system is attacking your own cells.
